Please help me, recently my rabbit passed away and I was so upset about it, I've been crying for days. The only thing that is keeping me going is the fact that I still have my other bunny with me who helps me grieve and also reminds me of my other rabbit. My first rabbit died from an illness called 'head tilt' which my vet put her on a course of antibiotics because it was either being caused by an inner ear infection or a parasite. However the vet didn't have any stock left of the parasite medicine so we never found out what caused her death. She only had one dose of antibiotics that day but passed away later that day.
I am very worried about my other rabbit who seems to be showing signs of depression as she has never lived by herself before and she hasnt been eating or drinking for a few days now. I give her attention every day but she wont move, I brought her into the house for 2 hours to try and keep her happy but it hasn't worked :( I cannot go through the same thing again, I'm afraid I might kill myself, I'm that upset. My parents won't get another pet to live with her because it's too expensive and I will be going to college soon. Please help me, how can I get her to eat and feel better? she wont respond to toys or anything like that, we've tried feeding her through seringes and she refuses that too, I can't afford another vet appointment so this is my only hope :(

ok, first, don't kill yourself for a rabbit. Give her oats to try to make her eat.if you have a friend that has a small dog os a rabbit, gpig, hamster, or something like that. Add molasses to her food and her paws. She will lick off the molasses. Go to a website were you can ask vets questions. I'm sorry but I don't know of any. Man with a paper bag on his head, please help her.

Was your rabbit showing any symptoms of sickness when she died? Some parasites will cause death in the animal as the parasite interrupts the central nervous system.

Is the rabbit vocalizing at all? Grinding his teeth? It definitely sounds like he's lethargic and it might be depression, but two days is too long for a rabbit to go without eating.

Mushed pellets with apple sauce work great. Put it in a syringe 5ML or bigger and let the rabbit lap it up. I guarantee she will. If she isn't drinking then you can try 25% apple juice added to water and given by syringe. You just need to be careful it doesn't go in her airway.

Put about 20 pellets in her dish. The idea is you want to see if she is eating any whatsoever and it might be unapparent if the dish is full.

Check her over from head to toe for bugs, bald spots, red spots, anything unusual. Post if you find and I will check back later. Check inside her ears too. Mites will make her ears look patchy and dirty and wax built up.

Vent disease may be another thing to watch for. Does she have any marks on her mouth? Do you know how to check the sex of your rabbit? Rabbit syphilis can be unapparent but deadly in rabbits. Her genitals will be swollen, red, may be abscessed, bleeding or with white discharge.

Your remaining bunny is def. in mourning, poor thing!! As long as she drinks water, she will be okay w/out food for a couple days--make sure she gets fluids in her!! If you give her water through a syringe, make sure to aim to the side of her mouth, towards the cheek so she won't choke. Offer her foods like fresh grass from outdoors (w/out fertilizer on it of course) and clover. (You can also make a liquid-y mush out of her rabbit food and give that through the syringe--again, offer it to the side of the cheek!) If she continues to refuse water, she will need to see a vet to get subcutaneous fluids or she will dehydrate and her health will plummet. You can get her through this w/ extra attention as well.

Maybe as a temporary distraction for her, you can find a big cardboard box, cut 2-3 doors/windows in it, so she can do some exploring. You can also place a stuffed animal about her size in with her so she doesn't feel so alone.

I hope she (and you) are feeling better soon!!!!!
