Rabbits have strong back feet, they can and will kick a guinea pig even if they go to hop away so yes it can kill a guinea pig.

Its not generally ever safe to put 2 different animals together.

I'd personally put a guinea pig and a rat together before I'd put a rabbit and a guinea pig together, all animals can be unpredictable at some point in their life so if you think you've had your guinea pig for a year and it just CAN'T hurt anything because its so sweet, think again, that's how "accidents" happen and "accidents" turn into deaths very quickly.

Learn how to spell guinea pig though, its guinea not ginnie or ginie, not being picky its just the point if you own one at the very least you should know how to spell what type of animal it is.

Good luck, Google it, not all sites can be trusted but you learn over time, in order to learn you need to have trial and error, make mistakes and learn from them, don't make the same mistake twice, that's how I learned, its the best way, research as much as you can and if you make a mistake and it turns out in death, start over again and do it even better.

Agreed do NOT listen to pet stores, most employees are there for a PAY CHECK NOT for the animals. Pet store animals are not healthy generally, they have genetic diseases.

Yes they eat different things there's absolutely NO safe way to house them together, side by side yes, but not in the same cage.

Get 2 rabbits and 2 guinea pigs if you want cage mates, its the safest way.

Check out www.chins-n-quills.com the Other Pets section and they will help you out and let you know right from wrong, they know best.

EDIT** When I meant put a rat with a guinea pig I meant for 5 minutes in a proof safe living room supervised, its unlikely that I would even do THAT.

I would not let any animal of DIFFERENT species live together, its wrong and you'll find out the hard way that they will end up dead.

It is NOT okay!

One of the reasons is because they DO NOT eat the same thing at all! You most certainly cannot feed both one same food. Rabbits will be unhealthy eating guinea pig food. And guinea pigs will be unhealthy eating rabbit food. You -cannot- make this situation work.

The other thing is that they both have very different ways of communicating. They would normally vocalize and use body language to communicate with others of their own kind, but since they do not understand one another, these signals can be misinterpreted. For example, rabbit lkanguage for being playful, might scare the life out of a guinea pig if it thinks the rabbit is attacking it. And because rabbits are a LOT stronger, one single swift kick to the piggy (even if the rabbit is only playing), and it would be severily injured and die.

Many uneducated people believe that they are similar, and compatible. They are not in any way. They even come from completely different families. While it is quite likely that they could go some years without dying horrible deaths or "attacking" eachother, you are stil being irresponsible for leaving the chance for something bad to happen. Please separate them.

Even if a rabbit & guinea pig have lived together for years and seemingly okay, it does not mean they are happy.

A piggy needs another pig to live with, rabbits don't speak in 'guinea pig' They come from & live in a completely different way to guinea pigs.

I don't know who's idea it was to start keeping them together in the first place! It's bizarre really.

For the happiness of your pets, if nothing else, i wouldn't keep them together :)

Edit; Guinea pigs need a food with 100% of their vitamin c intake... Rabbits do not. I can't believe there are foods for both & also hamsters too. Rabbits aren't even rodents!

I've been researching this topic too as my remaining rabbits brother died on Monday and i wanted to give him some company.

However, i found out that something in rabbit urine can make guinea pigs ill. All guineas are susceptible to it but not all get affected. Also, guinea pigs can suffer internal damage if accidently kicked by the rabbit. I also learned that they need completely different diets.

All in all, i have decided to bring our remaining bun indoors and smother him with our company instead!

Some will get on fine, like my male pig that i kept with my male rabbit, they both got on fine and only had one falling out, BUT when the rabbit died we were given a female rabbit and they both hatted each other.

And from what i saw when my female rabbit would attack cats that came in out garden they defenatly are capabull of killing a guinea pig.

Most shops, breeders and rescues now say not to house them togher.

here are a few reasons why, they dont have the same nutrirional requirments, the comunicate diffrently, rabbits can carry Pasteurella multocida which can make a G-pig ill.

Has anyone saying you cant keep rabbits and guinea pigs together ever tried keeping them together??? I've always had one rabbit and two guinea pigs and they live very happily together and are all very healthy. They all share dry rabbit food and ok, maybe the nutritional values between rabbit and guinea pig food are slightly different bt not to an extent that it will harm them! You can even get food that states its suitable for rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. Both rabbits and guinea pigs are active during the day and quiet at night. Both eat similar fresh foods like carrots, apples and greens (though you shouldnt feed rabbits lettuce). Theyr fine living together. I've had two rabbits, one female and one male, and both have lived happily with male guinea pigs. Anyone who says they can't are reading from a book and have never tried it themselves.

never put rabbits and guinea pigs together they dont get on very well. The rabbit will become dominant and with bully the guinea pig this may even result in death. Separate cages are better.

It can be both good and bad.

All depends really.

If you're new to buying a rabbit and Guinea pig then at first you should keep them apart, let them get settled in to their new home.

To make them get along you should introduce them, keep them living apart, but every now and then let them see each other. That way they will get used to each other and it be less likely that they would fight.

If you put make guinea pigs with rabbits, its better to have the same same number of each, like 1 each, 2 each, never 2 rabbits and 1 guinea pig, etc.

When they're together they may attack each other, but if you introduce them well then they shouldn't.

Good luck.

Seriously, it's best NOT to put them together. 1stly, quite often the rabbits will bully the guinea pigs, even though the rabbits might be dwarf rabbits. 2ndly, they eat diff food, so one of them might not be getting enough nutrients depending on what you feed them. 3rdly, there are transmittable diseases from rabbits to guinea pigs which could be fatal to them. So it's best not to keep them together

if they grow up together from a small age they should get along fine. I put my male rabbit in with my other male guinea pig but they were both different ages so my rabbit did attack the guinea pig but everything should be fine as long as you keep an eye on them! Good Luck!!!

I had a rabbit and a guinea pig together and they both survived without one attacking the other. And that's considering my rabbit was evil!

Definitely OK to keep them together - my local pet shop has 'resident' animals and they have a rabbit and guinea pig together - I'm assuming they are the experts - you'd hope lol!!!!!
