My tarantulas can eat mice!

Don't think the house ones get many of those up near the ceiling though!

They require very little in the way of food to survive, a full grown tarantula will be happy with a cricket a week.

They are opportunists so will eat when they can. If a bug comes within range it's gone and it doesn't take long for them to eat it - every last bit of it

Spiders eat a lot of bugs that people don't generally notice until they become a problem. Large tarantulas can eat mice and small lizards, but i kind of doubt that's what's living in your home :)

It should also be said that spiders can fast for long periods of time, so they may have a problem finding food and are just... not dead yet. It's doubtful that that's the case though. Since most prey comes out at night, it's most likely that you just don't see them when you look for them. Another thing to note is that (and this may sound creepy) lots of bugs live IN your walls, not outside of them in the actual rooms. Small insects can also fit in the space between the wall of the carpet, so they hide there eating crumbs or whatever the hell they eat. I've even found bugs under my wooden floorboards when we ripped them up, actually... :( (Of course, I also live in a fairly old house, so your walls and floors may be more bugproof than mine)

Ummm sorry to burst your bubble but your house has bugs. you just dont see them. Thats why its great to have a couple spiders living with you!!! pest control! Spiders can go a long time between meals so they dont have to eat every day. I good meal can last them a while. Its one of the wonders of a spiders metabolism. SO they just eat bugs. Thats about it. IF its your garden variety spider. In hard times spiders become cannibals. MMMMMMM MMMM good.

They are strictly predators. Large ones (large tarantulas) can take small rodents, even lizards, snakes and birds. You may not see the insects or other small spiders they are eating, but you can bet they are catching them :)
