My rabbit had at least 30 ticks all over his ears, I couldn't find them anywhere else on his body.. Is ears the only place they will go?
Also I'm not sure if I got all the ticks off him.. Will he die? There really small ticks
Is there a treatment I can use for rabbits to kill ticks?
Also, I just got a new rabbit today should I separate them incase she gets the ticks?

You must never pull the tick off because the head still sits on the rabbit after you pulled it off because the body brakes off from the head. Should use a repellent to get rid of the ticks!

The tick is a vector of the rickettsia bacteria wich causes tick fever so be aware. Make sure you pull off the tick with the head and body otherwise the tick just grows again and can cause tick fever when carrying the bacteria.

Shampoo could be used as precausion but wont let the ticks die. The ticks can spread to the other rabbit so keep them apart untill all the ticks is gone.

Keep the new rabbit away till you fix the tick issue. Go to your local pet store and buy some tick powder, make sure its safe for pets and try that. If that does not work put your rabbits ears in water, the ticks cant breath so they will dis-lodge themselves and flot to the surface. Why they are only on they ears is becouse the ears have lots of blood vains crisscrossing to cool the bunny when hes hot, his body pumps hot blood in his ears and sence the blood is so close to the skin it cools, cooling the bunny. Have you noticed after your bunny runs around alot that his ears are really hot? thats why. And thats why they target the ears.

if you cant do the water thing put something like mud on the ears, something that will cover the tick and make the tick come up for air (they breath through there body, not there head)

hope this helps! i would hate to have a tick on my rabbit!

If the tick has been on you for less than 12 hours it has not become embedded in the skin and you can just pull it off with your fingers. Longer than 12 hours, use tweezers and grip the body of the tick gently and as close to the head as possible. Pull slowly so the head stays on and then drop it in alcohol which kills it.

Don't burn it off, crush it or use chemicals, if it has Lyme disease it will release a discharge into the rabbits blood stream and give it the disease.

Hi

Right, your rabbit has got ticks, so you shouldn't put your new rabbit with him, as the other new rabbit will just get them as well. You can buy some tick treatment that you put on the rabbits skin and the ticks get attracted to it and they eat it but it kills them, just go into your local pet shop and get tick treatment and follow the instructions, also go to your vet, as if they wont kill your rabbit but could make him ill, as if there are loads they could harm him.

Good luck

a good trick is if it is biting ur rabbit take a cotton swap and some baby oil and spread it over the ticks body. you see they don't have lungs they have spores and trachea which means they have tiny air spores all over their body. and the baby oil plugs up those spores.and he cant breathe and dies.and make sure ur positive they are ticks if they r just by the ears and in the ears and are tiny.. they might be ear mites..

There might be small animal shampoo that removes bugs at your local pet shop. Yes, separate them so that they do not both have ticks.
