Feed them seeds and nuts, which are very fattening. However, too many sunflower seeds in a gerbil's diet can also make their bones easier to break. So they make get hurt very easily (eventhough they are pretty quick healers). For the gerbil's sake, you really shouldn't try to make them fat. It's unhealthy for them. I guess if they are rather small and need to put on a few pounds, it should be okay but after they gain the needed weight, it's best to cut down on the nuts.
