Question:
Why is my friend so stupid? PETA isn't anti pet!?

My stupid friend and I are having an argument. I'm a PETA member and donor and I have MANY pets! But my friend says that PETA is against pet ownership, and I say that's a lie because most people who donate to PETA and most people who are animal lovers own pets.

Please, someone help me find proof that PETA isn't anti pet so I can claim my $100!

You can't claim your $100 because you're wrong.

PETA is indeed against the ownership of pets:

http://www.peta.org/campaigns/ar-petaonpets.asp

Other stupid things their against include, but are not limited to: Crate training, no-kill shelters (apparently they rather see any animal die than be in a "cage for years" which rarely if ever happens), Pitbulls (I automatically hate any group for Breed Legislation personally), predator-reintroduction programs (I suppose we should die in swamps of bunnies, deer, and such where natural predators are dying out?), responsible breeding (meaning those people than spend thousands showing, health testing, getting homes lined up before puppies are born even, and so on), 'Catch-and-Release' Fishing, Zoos (Which play a vital role in education, and at times in reintroducing rare animals by breeding programs), the eating of any meat, and many more.

Not to mention the horrible tactics they use often to try and get their way (the publicity stunts, killing more any pets than any group out there, and don't forget their on a terrorist list now even).

There's nothing anyone could do or say to make me join PETA- Their a horrible group looked down by most of the people out there looking to help animals even.

Add:

Yes it is mad but it's true- PETA has it right on their own website, there's no much you can do to argue that.

Before you became a member of PETA, did you research their beliefs at all?

It comes straight from their own website, in their list of their "Uncompromising Stands on Animal Rights" that they are against pets. In PETA's opinion, animals should never have been domesticated in the first place. Their goal is to get to the point where there is no longer a supply or demand of pets such as dogs and cats. They are going to do this by sterilizing EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL that they come in contact with. You see, if you have a dog and would like to own dogs in the future, then PETA is not for you. If PETA had its way, then every dog, cat, or other animal in the country would be fixed so that it is no longer able to reproduce, thus leading to the end of domesticated animals.

So, PETA may not be against the pets that you have now (as long as you don't ever crate your dog or put him on a leash), but they are against you ever owning a dog in the future.

You can see so for yourself:

in case you're giving up being a vegetarian because of the fact the all and sundry is obnoxious, then why did you advance into one? i'm guessing you in basic terms had to be diverse. there have been no ethics or something in touch. PETA is for animals. in case you're against animal welfare, then circulate forward. i'm vegetarian for my very very own motives, because of the fact i think i will do my area. i do no longer evaluate it a incapacity. What do you advise "lazy to do something"? Lazy approximately what? this is not any longer hassle-free to think of of you as a vegetarian for any reason. So i desperate that this question is a humorous tale. I advise it truly made me snigger. It would not make any sense.

PETA is inherently AGAINST pet ownership...they allow their members to use a fluffy guilt-free name "Companion Animals" (have you even read their ethos? No? I didn't think so). PETA is against 'using' animals for any means- pet, research, Guide-dogs...bet you didn't see that one coming.

One day, when PETA has scammed all of your college fund from you, you will realise that PETA are not a reputable group, they are criminals and terrorists who fund criminals and terrorists (yep they are and they do). You might want to watch Penn and Teller's Bullshit episode about PETA.

PETA is only interested in your money.

Tell me one thing though, if PETA were so concerned about the welfare of animals, and didn't want them suffering, why does Ingrid Newkirk keep an animal that cannot clean itself- surely it is suffering?

Oh, and are you going to be one of the PETA members who barbecues Ingrid's body and distributes it to unsuspecting people on the street? Oh- did you not know about her sick plan for her remains once she passes on?

Well, Krissy said all there is to say, really. (:

Frankly, sweetheart? Your friend is spot on. PETA is nothing more than a group of domestic terrorists who are against anything from meat, to milk, to wool, to zoos, to pets. (Seeing eye dogs included!)

To quote Ingrid Newkirk (absolutely insane) herself:

"Our goal is *total animal liberation.*"

I wouldn't believe a single thing PETA tells you.

Oh, I think I've found the official answer:

http://www.peta.org/campaigns/ar-petaonpets.asp

Doesn't sound like they approve of any pet-keeping...but accept that it happens and want to encourage adoptions/rescues if you do feel you "have" to have a pet.

Few more PETA quotes:

"Let us allow the dog to disappear from our brick and concrete

jungles--from our firesides, from the leather nooses and chains

by which we enslave it." --John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An

Examination of A Changing Ethic (Washington, DC: People for the

Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), 1982), p. 15.

"The cat, like the dog, must disappear... We should cut the

domestic cat free from our dominance by neutering, neutering, and

more neutering, until our pathetic version of the cat ceases to

exist." --John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of A

Changing Ethic (Washington, DC: People for the Ethical Treatment

of Animals (PeTA), 1982), p. 15.

In response to your "additional details":

No, it's not madness. People are quoting PETA publications, not just giving their personal opinions.

What is real madness is your total dismissal of the evidence that everyone has posted, simply because it doesn't fit with your pre-conceived idea of what PETA stands for...

I do know about PETA but I can tell you that people who care about animals are somewhat against having caged animals, and against buying from breeders, and choose to adopt/rescue animals instead.

Who really cares what PETA thinks anyway? They told Ben and Jerry's to use human breast milk in their ice cream, and they promote women as sexual objects. And they think throwing paint on people is going to make them stop wearing fur but it really only makes them criminals.

I heard on the news that some PETA workers had 'adopted' animals out of various shelters, and then killed them so they wouldn't have to be "pets".

Anyways;

PETA is VERY anti-pet.

I know that PETA thinks you shouldn't have pets that live in cages, but the president of PETA has (or at least used to have) a dog.

while most members have good intentions.. ultimatly PETA is against pet ownership.. they would rather see our cats and dogs DEAD instead of "enslaved" as pets.
