Question:
Sugar Glider VS. Parrot (Parrotlet)?
2012-01-05 13:16:49 UTC
I really want a sugar glider. I also like parrots (if i got one id get a parrotlet) Im wondering which is better. A parrotlet or a sugar glider? If parrotlets are less cuddly but easier then id rather have which ever is sweetest. Parrot and sugar glider owners only please!
1.which is cheaper?
2.Which is nicer? (and cuddlier?)
3.Which bites more
4.which needs the smallest cage?
I know sugar gliders need a harder diet and might be harder to get there trust but ive heard once they are bonded they are so nice and can sit in your pocket or a pouch. Can you take a parrotlet with you? Or outside? Thanks! (btw i have plenty of time sense i homeschool so it dosent matter how much time they need)

1] Both are in the same price range, sugar glider [150-400], parrotlet [200-400]

2] This depends on how well they are bonded to you and trained

3] This also depends on how well they are bonded to you and trained, but birds usuaIIy nip

4] parrotlets would have the smaller cage

Sugar gliders are very high maintenance, therefor are harder to care for.

I recommend getting the sugar glider in pairs and young, as they will be easier to bond with, Sugar gliders are also very much harder in the money, for cage, food, toys. Many of which can be hard to find in pet stores, I recommend ' Sugarglidersuperstore.com ' for the supplies. Sugar gliders are very messy with their food, pee, feces

Do your research and see which one is most IikeIy to fit in your pIans

Parrotlet, BUT, visit one first, they're not for everyone. Yes, they can be nippy. They are territorial, aggressive, but, if you work with them, they can be very sweet also. In my experience, the females are sweeter, but can be extremely protective of their owner. Since you have children, you would have to be EXTRA careful. They are small, but have a HUGE attitude. They would have to be socialized early on, from the time they are pulled. I would NOT take a parrotlet outside unless it was safely caged. They could spook and take off or a hawk or other predator could swoop down and snatch it up before you could react. Parrotlets are very fast to move and I've heard many horror stories of them taking off, getting stepped on, sat on, anything could happen. Never let them on the floor, dangerous. Also, do you have other pets? Pasting a link for top ten dangers to be aware of. Some of the same dangers could apply to sugar gliders too.

That said, I ADORE parrotlets and can't imagine being without one. But, as I said, they are definitely not for everyone.

Safety first.

Rats have the shortest lifespan of the lot, chins and gliders stay longest, which IMO is a plus, no longer a minus as maximum of puppy sites make out... Chins and gliders are the least stressful on the nostril, yet they are messy via foodstuff and debris they chuck out of the cage. I have no journey with rats. Had a guinda pig whilst i become little, and the scent become stressful to take. The cage had to be wiped sparkling on a daily basis. All may well be cuddly or skittish, it quite is all interior the genetics and environment the animal is in. i've got seen cuddly gps like the puppy of my teenagers, and different gps that bolted on the 1st hint of a splash. Gliders may well be little unpredictable demons or genuinely loving and cuddly kissy charmers. it quite relies upon on the particular joey and you. i've got had 2 that grew to become out as affectionate as a cat, and yet another that doesn't enable me everywhere close to her. nevertheless yet another that become super sufficient to deal with, yet she never found out to no longer nip even in relaxing. the two affectionate ones have been speedy beginners and one among them become the sweetest ol' gal that never nibbled. She become so tender and easy that anybody could desire to stick their hand in her day mattress and he or she'd lick them a million/2 to loss of life, quite in the event that they have been sons and daughters. the only I even have now could be following her act pretty lots. My journey with ferrets is amazingly limited, never had one as a puppy, yet dealt with some at puppy shops. They do have a musky scent, even whilst de-scented. those i've got touched have been friendly and extremely licky. yet i've got heard different human beings say that they had frightening stories with bitty ferrets. concepts you, it quite is an identical with cats. some are friendly, others, no longer lots.

If you want something sweet, funny, tame, and cuddly, get a lovebird. but only get one and it will bond to you. My lovebird changed my life and was the best thing that every happend to me. Its like a little flying dog. There extremly playful. Just make sure you get a handfed baby from like a breeder. Look up some videos on youtube and things about them. You will fall in love. :)
